Any product that is a parent or child item of a BOM can be added to a project, quote, or order. The selected product and all of its children (if it has any) will be added to that project, quote or order. For example I could select a basket set, then separately select both the two singular basket and add all three separately to a project, quote, or order. Only the selected/added products will display in card view on a project, quote, or order. All child products will display in the table view of a project, quote, or order. You will know a parent item has components when you see an icon in the bottom right corner, like in the product pictured below.

Once you have selected the parent item(s) and other products to add to your project, quote, or order, click into the table view and you will be able to see the individual child components below each parent item. Individual child components only show when you are looking at the catalog itself and not within projects, quotes, and orders.
